National Trial

Tomorrow is the the national squad trial. Fortunately I don't have to take part because I made a final at the World champs in August. Racing looks a though it's going to be tough as everyone battles it out for funding over the next few months.

First up is the 200m, above are the guys to watch out for. No one is sure what anyone else's level is at but I know these guys will be going fast! Watch Stu he's been focusing on the 200 for a while as well as Melck and Greg Louw. The dark horse in this race is definitely Dawie Gerber, this guy has so much raw speed it will be interesting to see if he's managed to put some good injury free training. Nick Stubbs the 1000m natural is always good over every distance and has beaten these guys on the last to occasions but will specialising from the others begin to pay off.

In the afternoon the 1000m takes place, my thought are that it'll be raced out between three big guys in SA paddling. Matt Bouman, the surfski champion, who back in the day was doing the same sort of times as his opponents have been posting. Len Jenkins, king of the fish and current marathon world champs medalist whose no stranger to the 1000m distance. Then there's the thoroughbred, 100+kg race horse, Nick Stubbs who is definitely favourite going into this race after a successful international season. Who will it be only time will tell!
