The K1 200 came down to a 2 horse race in the final between Shaun and I, we both ended 1.1sec ahead of 3rd place which is roughly 6meters on the water. I just managed to pip Shaun, 5 hundredths of a second, a really close race as you can see in the pic below. Its so awesome to be so close to you team mate and training partner. You want to beat the guy cause of your competitiveness but at the same its great to climb into the K2 knowing on every other day he's probably better than you.
Shaun and my focus for the Olympics is in the K2 200m, and we had a great race in both our 200m and 500m we managed to race PB's over both distances. Just for perspective our time of 32.09 over the 200m would be regarded as the 7th fastest of all ever if we had raced it on an official course in an international regatta. This is an awesome confidence booster for both of us going into the world cups in three weeks.
Well done to my coach. Captain Awesome with only 3 athletes he managed to get:
200m : K1 Gold, Silver, Bronze K2 Gold
500m : K1 Gold, Silver, Bronze K2 Gold
1000m: K1 Gold, Bronze K2 Silver
And thanks for the awesome pics Matt Bouman, the fastest up and coming extreme sports photographer, who has the best solution I've heard for photography-"Throw money at the problem!"
